Introduction to Premises Licence Applications

Our dedicated team of are here to assist you in obtaining a Premises Licence for your business. If you plan to engage in the retail sale of alcohol for consumption on or off your premises, provide regulated entertainment, or offer late-night refreshments, you will need a premises licence, as these activities are classified as 'licensable activities.

Licensable activities include:

  • Retail sale of alcohol
  • Playing recorded music
  • Provision of late-night refreshments, including hot food/drinks served between 11 pm and 5 am

What We Will Do for You

  • Complete and submit the application forms to the council on your behalf.
  • Liaise with the authorities by forwarding a copy of the application.
  • Produce an advertisement for display in the local press.
  • Prepare and send the necessary notice to be displayed prominently on the exterior of your premises.
  • Negotiate with relevant authorities if any objections or representations are received.

Our Fees

Our fixed fee for handling a straightforward premises licence application is £1,100 (plus VAT, excluding disbursements).

Please note that if the matter becomes more complex, we reserve the right to charge for additional work. We will inform you of any revised costs before you incur additional charges.

Disbursements

Disbursements are costs related to your matter that are payable to third parties, such as the application fee. We will handle these payments on your behalf to ensure a smoother process. Disbursements may include:

  • Application fee (payable to the licensing authority): £100.00-£1,905.00
  • Advertising fee
  • Enquiry agent fees for displaying public notices
  • Special delivery fees for serving the application
  • Printing additional copies of plans if necessary

These fees can vary depending on the premises and location. We will provide an accurate figure for each item as soon as possible.

Our Fee Includes

  • Taking your instructions and advising on promoting the licensing objectives within your application.
  • Advising on the type of plans required for submission.
  • Completing and submitting the application form for a new premises licence, including the operating schedule, to the local licensing authority with suitable plans (to be provided by you).

The Fee Does Not Include

  • Obtaining suitable plans
  • Attending pre-consultation meetings with the Licensing Authority or Responsible Authorities, or their fees
  • Handling queries or representations from responsible authorities or other parties
  • Advising on licence variations
  • Attendance and representation at a licensing sub-committee hearing. If required, we will provide a separate fee estimate for this work, charged at an hourly rate.

How Long Will My Application Take?

Typically, applications take 8 to 16 weeks from receiving full instructions. This timeline assumes the application is straightforward and all necessary documents are provided promptly. More complex matters, such as those with significant opposition or delays in document provision, may take longer.
